Public Comment on TISA Goals
Jackson County Schools receives funding from the State of Tennessee.
Beginning this year, funding comes from a new formula called TISA. We
want to inform the public about our long-term goals for the system and
solicit suggestions and comments regarding these goals. Our goals
include:
Goal 1: Jackson County Schools will improve both achievement and
growth in English/Language Arts/Reading. Our ultimate goal is for 70% of
third graders to be proficient in ELA on TCAP by 2030 with the same or
improved scores in grades 4-12. To reach that goal, the system will
implement high-quality Instructional Materials, tutoring, enhanced RTI,
instructionally appropriate IEPs for students with disabilities, and any other
appropriate methods to improve student achievement and growth. We
want our students to leave school with all the necessary skills they need to
be successful in whatever college and career path they choose.
Goal 2: Jackson County Schools will improve both achievement and
growth in Math. Our ultimate goal is for 75% of our students to be
proficient in Math on TCAP by 2030 with the same or improved scores in
grades 4-12. To reach that goal, the system will implement High Quality
Instructional Materials, tutoring, enhanced RTI, instructional appropriate
IEPs for students with disabilities, and any other appropriate methods to
improve student achievement and growth. We want our students to leave
school with all the necessary skills they need to be successful in whatever
college and career path they choose.
Goal 3: Jackson County Schools will improve the percentage of students who
are Ready Graduates, meaning that students graduate from our schools
ready for the college or career of their choice. Our ultimate goal is for 95%
of students to be Ready Graduates by 2030. Students can demonstrate
they are Ready Graduates in a number of ways, including but not limited to:
meeting the benchmark of 21 on the ACT; scoring at or above the state
benchmark on the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB);
taking 4 dual enrollment courses at either a college or university, TCAT, or
combination; taking 2 dual enrollment courses and earning an industry
certification recognized by the state; and other less used methods.
TISA funding will be used to support activities designed to help us meet
these goals. If you have any comments or suggestions, please make them
in the text box below. Thank you for your support of our schools.
